The RSPBA CPBM Program is offered in 2 phases
- Part 1 of the Certificate of Pipe Band Musicianship
- Part 2 of the Certificate of Pipe Band Musicianship
CPBM Part 2 Criteria
Entry Criteria: To have achieved the required *A passes in CPBM Part 1
Aims:
To further develop the underpinning knowledge achieved in CPBM Part 1 and Develop the Candidates Practitioner and Musicianship skillsets through their participation in the CPBM Part 2 process
It is a Multi- Faceted process incorporating various aspects of the RSPBA Education Programs
Study Units Practical – 120 hours / Theory – 60 Hours
CPBM Part 2 Programn
This Study is delivered by the method of Lectures and then supported by an On-line Assignment Process
The Candidate will study all aspects of a Designed Instructors Syllabus
They will present a Formative Record of Instruction and Tuition with a minimum of 40 Hours of evidence in a Pipe Band environment
This Record must evidence Key aspects of the Instructors Syllabus. This will be supported with a Video Presentation approximately15 minutes in duration mapping Key aspects of their Instruction and Tuition program
They will also provide a program of Music, to include a selection of Marches or Medley which will be Arranged and Scored to fulfil the Musical and Technical abilities of a band within this record
CPBM Part 2 Theory Studies
The Syllabus content is derived from the RSPBA Structured learning: Book 3
*Theory paper is maximum of 2 hour’s duration
*Ensemble paper is maximum of 1hour duration
Delivery is by lecture and supported on-line assignments
CPBM Part 2 Assessment Process
The candidates Instruction/ Tuition Record and Video Presentation will be Assessed
The candidates Musical Presentations will be Assessed
The candidates Theory Study will be Assessed
The candidates Theory Study of Ensemble will be Assessed
The candidate will also engage in an Ensemble *Practical Study and submit Musical Arrangements describing their Ensemble Intentions and this will be assessed.
The candidate will provide a Formative Live Practical lesson Plan delivery of a minimum of 30 minutes duration on a chosen topic and will be Assessed during this Live Practical lesson Presentation.
Pipes Only: The candidate will provide a Formative Live Practical lesson plan delivery of a minimum of 30 minute in duration of a Piobaireachd lesson and will be Assessed during this Live Practical Lesson Presentation.
The candidate will provide a dissertation of 1200/1500 words describing key event’s or person’s that they feel may have made a major contribution to the pipe band fraternity and this will be assessed.
CPBM Part 2 Achievement
A candidate must achieve a Minimum of 80 % of the Overall Total of marks awarded from the entire Assessment Processes to successfully achieve an
*A Pass for the CPBM Part 2 process.

RSPBA CPBM Part 2 Outcomes
A Successful candidate will have achieved the following:
The RSPBA Certificate of Pipe Band Musicianship.
The RSPBA Approved Instructors Certificate.
The PDQB Tutors Certificate.
Candidate Progression: Bagpipe or Snare Drum Candidates
A Successful Candidate may also apply for the following Roles:
To be considered as a RSPBA/PDQB/SQA Approved Assessor and Instructor.
That a Candidate would have achieved the RSPBA Pipe Band College Academic Qualification Standard as part of the criteria regards an Adjudicator Application as a RSPBA Pipe Band Adjudicator.
Candidate Progression: Bass Section Candidates
A Successful Candidate may also apply for the following Roles:
To be considered as a RSPBA/PDQB/SQA Approved Assessor and Instructor.
That a Candidate would have achieved the RSPBA Pipe Band College Academic Qualification Standard as part of the criteria regards an Application for a:
*Specialist Adjudication Program (Bass Section Drums)
